Lower Granite Upstream Floating Guide Wall Improvements

Construction | Heavy Civil & Public Works Construction << Return to Projects

Client: CORP of Engineers | Walla Walla District
Location: Lower Granite Dam | Columbia River
This project is located at the Lower Granite Lock and Dam in Pomeroy, Washington on the Snake River. The floating guide wall currently uses timbers for protection from barge impacts. These timbers have been in service since 1974 and have been broken down by water, weather, and bacteria. The objective of this project is to install new HDPE walers to replace the existing timber walers along the entire length of the Lower Granite upstream floating guide wall to improve river conditions for Endangered Species Act (ESA) listed fish. Replacement of the timbers and installation of the HDPE walers are being completed in the 2024 predesignated scheduled navigation lock maintenance outage. Primary Subcontractor: Knight Construction.
