Design Build | Rehabilitate Unsafe and Failing Electrical System

Services | Energy & Electrical << Return to Projects

Client: National Park Service
Location: Kalaupapa National Historic Park, Molokai, HI
Kalaupapa National Park (Kalaupapa), managed by the NPS, operates, and maintains the electrical power distribution system for the remotely located peninsula on which the park is located on the Island of Molokai, Hawaii. The condition of the Kalaupapa electrical microgrid is substandard, inadequate, and may become a shock or fire hazard to the general public, park personnel, or structures. Kalaupapa has frequent power outages caused by distribution equipment failures within the settlement, as well as electrical power surges or outages. Corroded and aging pad-mounted and pole-top distribution transformers, worn and frayed distribution lines, rotting poles, corroded pole-line hardware, and insulator failures are the primary sources of failure for the Kalaupapa electrical microgrid distribution system. Approximately seven (7) miles of overhead distribution line will be replaced. TDX has contracted POWER Engineers for the design. Construction is anticipated to start in 2025.
